Peer Support Specialist – Veteran and Family


Peer Support Specialist to work directly with Veterans and their families as they pursue housing stability and greater self-sufficiency. This position provides peer-to-peer support, community outreach, resource navigation, advocacy, and ongoing encouragement. This position may require flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends during severe-weather shelter activations.

Peer Support Specialist – Veteran and Family Details:

  • Temp-to-Hire position
  • $19.67 to $25.61 /hour
  • Full Time work available
  • First Shift (Monday through Friday)
  • Identify and engage unsheltered individuals through direct outreach, referrals, shelters, law enforcement, churches, and community service providers
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with Veterans and their families
  • Provide encouragement and coaching related to self-care, housing stability, and independent living
  • Advocate for participants and help them work toward their individual housing goals
  • Assist participants with accessing community programs, services, and other resources
  • Maintain participant confidentiality Attend required severe-weather shelter training and certifications

Peer Support Specialist – Veteran and Family Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of direct client-contact or customer-service experience
  • Peer Mentorship certification and crisis-intervention training, or the ability to obtain both within one year of employment
  • Basic computer proficiency, including
  • Microsoft Office
  • Ability to maintain accurate and confidential participant documentation
  • Ability to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Willingness to work occasional nights, weekends, and in varying weather conditions
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license with an acceptable driving record 
  • Previous military experience with an honorable discharge
  • Applicant may be subject to a background check
  • Applicant may be subject to a Motor Vehicle Report
  • Pre-employment drug screen (Excluding THC) is required as a condition of employment
