Pre-Employment Testing
The predecessor of Elwood Staffing was a consulting service founded
by David L. Elwood in 1980 in Columbus, Indiana. Initially,
the main service provided was pre-employment testing. In 1987, Mark
S. Elwood joined the company and services were expanded to include
employee opinion surveys.
Assistance in Hiring
In 1993, the company began offering assistance in all phases of
the hiring process from advertising for needed employees through
interviewing, skill testing, drug testing, making hiring recommendations,
arranging for physical examinations of new hires, and handling applicant
phone calls and correspondence.
Staffing Services
Within a year, temporary staffing services were offered to the companies
for which employment assistance and testing had been provided.
Very strong growth was quickly realized in this area. To help
sustain this growth and to spur further growth, John A. Elwood joined
the company in 1996, and Mike Elwood came on board in 2004.
Incorporation The company was incorporated in 1995 as Elwood Consulting Company, Inc. In 1997 the name was changed to Elwood Staffing Services, Inc. to more accurately reflect what had become the major business activity of the company.
Recognition Elwood Staffing was honored in 1997 and 1998 by the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Indiana University as one of the 100 fastest growing companies in Indiana. Other awards and recognition the company has earned include:
- February, 1998—The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce named Elwood Staffing Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year
- February, 1999—The Richard G. Lugar Achievement Award
- August, 2005—Indianapolis Business Journal ranked Elwood Staffing the 4th largest temporary employment service in Indianapolis
- September, 2005—Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc. ranked Elwood Staffing as America’s 12th fastest-growing private staffing company over the 2001-2004 timeframe
- October, 2005—The Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business named Elwood Staffing a finalist for its Entrepreneurial Award of Distinction in the Growth category.
